Security Council

Greetings, delegates! I am William Chu, a junior from IBSH, and I’m more than grateful to serve as your Security Council (SC) President for DISMUN this year. MUN has profoundly reshaped my high school experience: it introduced new friendships, helped me build confidence, and made me a better debater.

I started my MUN journey like most of you: struggling to keep up with debate, clueless about all the complex MUN terminology, and only earning 20 speaker points. However, encouragement from friends and my inner curiosity kept me going, and I eventually stepped out of my comfort zone as I started taking on various roles, including main submitter, P5s, and chairing positions. Therefore, don’t let your first few conferences discourage you! Trust the process and always stay open-minded; I can guarantee that you will learn to appreciate MUN after getting more exposure.

Welcome to DISMUN! My name is Tyrone Chuan, a junior from Pacific American School, and I am honored to serve as your co-chair for the Security Council.

This will be my second time chairing and my sixth MUN conference. Throughout my experiences in MUN, I have developed a deeper appreciation for diplomacy, negotiation, and the challenge of balancing national interests with collective action. MUN has encouraged me to look beyond individual perspectives and consider the historical, political, and strategic factors that shape international decisions.

Outside of MUN, I enjoy exploring the humanities and pursuing creative interests such as art, clothing, and writing. I also enjoy the occasional 3 a.m. rabbit holes that have no business keeping me up. These interests have shaped the way I approach discussions and problem-solving, allowing me to appreciate different perspectives and the complexities behind global affairs.

The Security Council is a committee where diplomacy, strategy, and negotiation are especially important. I encourage you to challenge each other's perspectives, engage thoughtfully with different positions, and work toward solutions that reflect both realism and cooperation.
