President: Claudia Chuang (KAS)

Honorable participants of DISMUN V,

My name is Claudia Chuang, a current junior attending Kaohsiung American School (KAS). It is my utmost honor to serve as the President of NATO for this year’s annual DISMUN conference. Five years ago, I embarked on my MUN journey as a timid delegate who nearly fell off her chair at the banging of the gavel. Since then, much has changed.

Words cannot describe how significant a role MUN has played in my life. It has nurtured the skills necessary in academic environments and further expanded my interests in political science and global issues.

Besides MUN, I enjoy binge-watching Netflix films, taking naps during rainy seasons, and taking ridiculously bad photos of my friends and siblings. All in all, I hope this opportunity will assist all those attending to gain further insights into global issues and develop the confidence and leadership necessary for success.

I look forward to seeing all of you in March!

Deputy President: Arthur Chen (DIS)

Honourable delegates,

My name is Arthur Chen, a sophomore at Dominican International School, and it is my utmost pleasure and honour to serve as your deputy president for this year’s crisis committee. From starting my MUN journey from a quiet delegate in seventh grade, I am now glad to be the one assisting the same quiet delegate that I have been three years ago. With DISMUN V being my second time chairing and my eleventh conference, I hope that I may be of assistance to any new and shy delegates.

To me, MUN is not just a place to practise debate with other students, but a forum between the future leaders of the world to discuss critical global issues, a forum to discuss new ideas, and a forum for raising awareness of the problems we have in the world. In this crisis committee, a delicate balance between two powers emerge, and we hope that each delegate present in our committee will be able to experience both diplomatic intrigue and the power of wielding power, which is very different from most other MUN committees.

Besides MUN, I also enjoy playing video games, lying in bed on cold days, and playing volleyball. I hope that MUN will not be just a debate activity, but a community where you can make friends with like-minded individuals.

I look forward to seeing you all in March!
